Eleocharis Accicularis, also known simply as Hair Grass, Japanese Hair Grass and a multitude of other names, is a classic aquarium plant that has been used for years! Typically used as a foreground aquarium plant, Eleocharis Accicularisis similar to its popular counterpart, Eleocharis Parvula, but produces a slight curve giving off the appearance of the compact, low growth that is highly-coveted when using any type of aquarium hair grass in a planted aquarium tank. Care is generally forgiving and while CO2 injection isn’t required, the addition of it will significantly improve Eleocharis Accicularis growth rate and thickness, resulting in a lush carpet much quicker!
Along with CO2 injection, choosing a quality aquarium LED lighting unit and a nutrient-dense aquarium soil should be provided for optimal conditions. To plant, simply separate this aquarium plant into small portions and plant each portion an inch or so apart halfway into the aquarium substrate. Once established, regular trimming will be required as once it sends runners out, Eleocharis Accicularis grows quickly. When compared to other species of Hair Grass, Eleocharis Accicularis isn’t as invasive and is also much easier to contain if a specific area calls for this aquatic plant!
